Description

Authority Without Ornament

Where the Auctor and Praesul carry the weight of metallic trim and the Clerex carries the weight of liturgical color, the Valorum carries weight by subtraction. The charcoal hue is dark enough to read seriously from the chancel and light enough to feel approachable in counseling and visitation. There is nothing to compete with the rabat, pectoral cross, or pulpit Bible – which is the point.

Signature Clean Welt Pockets

A horizontal welt chest pocket sits clean on the right chest, and two horizontal welt hip pockets are stitched into the body without flaps or piping. The minimalist pocket treatment lets the silhouette read as a single block of color from any distance.

Seven-Button Tonal Closure and Construction

Seven tonal black-faced buttons close a centered placket from the base of the Mandarin collar to the hem so the closure nearly disappears into the body. The shoulder is structured for a clean line, the chest is half-canvassed for natural drape, and a single back vent improves seated line during long counseling sessions and committee meetings.

Wool-Blend Twill in Refined Charcoal

The body is a mid-weight wool-polyester twill in a true mid-charcoal that reads consistent under stage lighting, daylight, and broadcast camera. Dry-clean only and store on a wide hanger inside a breathable garment bag between services.

Sizing and Who It’s For

Cut for chaplains, associate pastors, hospital and prison ministers, and senior clergy who want a quietly authoritative jacket without metallic trim. Standard chest sizes 38-54 in regular and long; made-to-measure available for sleeve, hem, and shoulder.

FAQs

Why is the Valorum charcoal rather than black?

Charcoal carries the seriousness of black on stage but reads softer in conversation, hospital rooms, and counseling. It is the right tone for clergy who do significant non-pulpit ministry.

Can the Valorum be ordered in true black?

Yes. A true-black or navy color upgrade is available as a paid add-on on standard or made-to-measure orders.

Will adding a chest cross or seal change the look?

Yes. The Valorum is intentionally unornamented, so an embroidered cross or seal will read prominently. We recommend small-scale, tonal embroidery to preserve the minimalist line.

How does the Valorum differ from the Rectory?

The Rectory has gold-piped placket and gold cuff crosses. The Valorum has no metallic trim or embroidery, in charcoal rather than black, for ministers who prefer a fully restrained look.
