A classical pattern, faithfully kept
The Fraternus Traditional Robe is drafted from a Benedictine-influenced choir pattern: clean shoulder line, full-cut body, generous sleeves with a slight bell, and a hood that sits forward enough to read in choir without compromising the lay of the cloth at the shoulders. It is the robe we recommend to communities who want one habit that does both Office and ordinary work without compromise.
Fabric and feel
A wool-rich blend in matte black or undyed cream (please specify at order). The hand is firm but not stiff; the cloth holds a press and sheds wrinkles from kneeling and sitting. Weight is comfortable for autumn through spring; for hot-climate houses, we offer a lighter summer-weight cotton-linen option (see upgrades below).
Construction details
Lined hood with an inner facing in matching shell cloth, finished by hand at the neckline. Sculpted sleeve head for a clean shoulder roll. Internal canvas at the back yoke to keep the silhouette in motion. Two side-seam pockets, one with a small interior keeper for a pectoral cross or key fob. Reinforced cincture loops at the side seams. Cincture sold separately or bundled at checkout.
Who it is for
Monastic communities with a regular sung Office, novitiate houses preparing brothers for solemn profession, religious-order schools, and clergy who serve in monastic settings. Customers often pair this with our Discipulus Full-Length Robe for high feast days and a lighter Solivagus or Pauperis for in-cell wear.
