The Working Pulpit Jacket
The Rectory is the most versatile preaching jacket in the line. It carries enough trim to read clearly as clerical from the chancel – the gold-piped placket and the cross at each cuff – but holds back from the high-ceremony brocade of the Auctor or gold collar band of the Praesul. That makes it the right jacket for the rector who needs one trustworthy garment to cover Sunday preaching, weddings, funerals, and weekday ministry.
Signature Gold-Piped Placket and Cuff Crosses
A continuous gold piping runs from the base of the Mandarin collar straight down the centered placket to the hem, framing the closure as a single visual line. A satin-stitched gold cross sits on each forearm cuff at the same vertical line as the placket, so the gold trim reads consistent from collar to wrist when the hands are clasped at the front of the jacket.
Five-Button Tonal Closure and Construction
Five tonal black dome buttons close the centered placket so the gold piping is the dominant front detail. The shoulder is lightly structured to keep the cuff embroidery aligned, the chest is half-canvassed for clean drape without lapels, and a single back vent improves seated line during long services and graveside ministry.
Wool-Blend Body and Care
The body is a mid-weight wool-polyester suiting in true matte black with strong wrinkle recovery for back-to-back appointments. Dry-clean only; brush the embroidered cuff crosses gently with a soft horsehair brush after each wear and store on a wide hanger inside a breathable garment bag.
