Description

A lace-trimmed alb in the traditional Latin and Anglican manner

The Sanctum is designed to be worn over a black cassock, in the older Latin and high-Anglican manner where the alb itself is treated as a finished, ornamented vestment. The contrast of black cassock seen through fine lace insertions is part of the visual language of solemn liturgy, vespers, and Benediction, and our cut keeps that visual reading authentic and proportional.

Signature feature: silver-tone IHS-pattern lace insertions

Each Sanctum has two 4 inch lace insertion bands at the lower sleeves and a deeper 6 inch band rising from the hem, all in matched silver-tone scallop edging with the IHS Christogram woven into the repeat. The lace is set into the lawn (not appliquéd on top), so the cassock shows softly through the openwork – the traditional reading prized in solemn Roman, Anglican, and Old Catholic liturgies.

Square-yoke construction with deep box-pleat front

The square Latin yoke is double-faced and lightly interfaced for shape, with a deep central box pleat anchored at the upper chest. The pleat releases at the chest line and falls clean to the hem, giving the alb the columnar, architectural front that traditionalists associate with the older Roman cut. Side seams are flat-felled and sleeve cuffs are reinforced where the lace meets the lawn.

Polyester-cotton lawn fabric and care

65% polyester, 35% cotton lawn, light-weight at approximately 130 GSM, with a smooth crisp hand that supports the lace without going limp. Machine wash cold on delicate, lay flat or hang to dry, and press the body of the alb at medium heat through a pressing cloth. Avoid pressing directly on the lace.

FAQs

Is the Sanctum worn over a cassock?

Yes – it is cut and proportioned to be vested over a black cassock in the traditional Latin or Anglican manner, where the cassock is visible through the lace insertions.

Is the lace real handmade lace?

It is a high-quality machine lace woven specifically for liturgical wear, with the IHS Christogram in the repeat and a stable openwork structure suitable for laundering.

Will the lace tear in the wash?

Not when laundered as recommended – cold delicate cycle inside a mesh garment bag, with a non-bleach detergent. Avoid the dryer; lay flat or hang on a wide hanger.

Can I wear the Sanctum without a cassock underneath?

Yes, but the lace insertions are designed to read with a dark layer behind them. For solo wear without a cassock, please consider the Albanor or Vestalis instead.
