The Formal Purple Cassock for Ordained Ministry
The Violae Formal Cassock is Clergyss’s foundational offering in purple clergy vestments. Purple holds a precise place in the liturgical colour hierarchy – it is the colour of bishops in the Western church, of penitence and preparation in Advent and Lent, and of senior ordained ministry in many denominations. The Violae gives clergy access to a well-constructed, correctly coloured purple cassock at a price appropriate to a working vestment worn regularly through the liturgical year.
The cassock is cut to full length – from collar to floor – in the traditional single-breasted style with a button-through front. The rounded collar fits close to the neck, creating the clean, unbroken vertical line that defines the formal cassock silhouette. Whether processing into a cathedral, presiding at a diocesan service, or celebrating a liturgical feast, the Violae presents the wearer in the full dignity of purple clerical dress.
Fabric, Construction and Care
The Violae is constructed from a mid-weight woven fabric in a consistent ecclesiastical purple. The fabric is selected for its colour fastness – purple can fade unevenly with repeated washing, and the Violae’s fabric is chosen to hold its depth of colour through the number of laundering cycles appropriate to a working vestment.
The button front and collar are finished with reinforced stitching, and the hem is let down to the appropriate cassock length for standing wear. The cassock is machine washable on a delicate cycle or may be dry-cleaned for best results. Hang immediately after washing to prevent creasing, and press on a medium-low setting if required.
Who This Cassock Is For
The Violae suits bishops, archdeacons, canons, and senior clergy who require a dependable formal purple cassock for regular liturgical use. It is also appropriate for clergy in traditions that vest in purple for penitential seasons, ordinations, and diocesan ceremonies. The standard fit accommodates a wide range of builds, and the extended sizing ensures larger clergy can access a properly proportioned cassock rather than a stretched standard cut.
Available in standard chest sizes 38–60 in Short, Regular and Long lengths.
