Description

A Modern Monastic Silhouette

The Cenobium reads as a contemporary monastic habit rather than a clerical cassock. The shoulders sit naturally without padding, the body falls in a quiet column, and the hem lands just at the ankle so the robe moves cleanly during liturgy and daily work. The white piping is intentionally fine—enough to define the placket and cuffs without dominating the look—so the robe stays appropriate for both communal worship and private prayer.

Stand Collar and White-Piped Placket

The 1.5-inch stand collar is interlined for shape and finished with a hidden hook so it stays closed without a visible clasp. A continuous row of black covered buttons runs from the throat to mid-calf, framed by a thin white piping that traces the placket and continues around each cuff. The piping is woven cotton, not painted trim, so it stays bright wash after wash.

Construction and Inner Build

The yoke is half-lined for shape across the shoulders, with a center back vent that opens slightly when kneeling. Two side-seam pockets are positioned just below the natural waist for easy access. Bartacks reinforce stress points at the placket, vent, and pocket openings, and the inner facings are bias-cut so the front hangs straight without rolling.

Fabric, Weight, and Care

Built from a year-round wool-poly suiting at roughly 240 gsm with a soft, dry hand and a true matte finish. The fabric resists creasing during travel and recovers well between wears. Recommended care is dry clean; gentle steam restores the placket and collar without flattening the piping. With routine care this robe is built to hold its shape for many years of daily use.

Who This Robe Is For

The Cenobium is built for monastics, oblates, religious community members, retreat leaders, and clergy who want a quietly formal floor-length robe for daily wear. It also suits chaplains and spiritual directors who lead silent retreats and need a vestment that reads contemplative rather than ceremonial. Pair with a leather cincture or knotted cord for a traditional finish, or wear unbelted for a softer line.

Sizing and Made-to-Measure

Made-to-measure is built to your chest, waist, sleeve, and overall length and is produced and dispatched within 12–15 working days. FAQs

Is this robe suitable for daily monastic wear?

Yes. The mid-weight wool-poly is built for routine wear, with reinforced stress points and durable woven piping that holds up to repeated wear, kneeling, and gentle dry cleaning.

Can I wear it with a cincture or rope cord?

Yes. The robe is cut to take a leather cincture or a traditional knotted rope cord. We offer both as add-ons, and made-to-measure orders can include hidden cincture loops.

Will the white piping yellow over time?

We use a colorfast woven cotton piping that resists yellowing under normal wear and dry cleaning. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight when storing to keep the trim at its original brightness.

Does it have pockets?

Yes. Two discreet side-seam pockets sit just below the natural waist. Made-to-measure orders can add a hidden interior chest pocket for liturgy cards or reading glasses.
