A White Clergy Shirt for Warm Weather and Layered Wear
Pax is a white short-sleeve shirt built for the settings where black feels too heavy and a long sleeve is unnecessary. Summer parish work, hospital chaplaincy in warm climates, outdoor services, mission trips, and retreat weekends are all occasions where a white shirt reads as professional and ordained without absorbing heat the way black fabric does.
White shirts serve a second purpose: they are the standard undershirt for albs, cassock-albs, and surplices in traditions that require a clerical shirt to be visible at the collar. Because the tab and the shirt body are both white, the collar reads as a continuous band rather than a contrast point, which gives the overall look a clean, unified line.
Collar and Closure
The stand collar is the same tab-collar construction used across the clerical shirt line: a band collar cut to hold a removable white clerical tab at the center front. On a white shirt, the tab blends into the collar band rather than standing out against a dark background, which gives a subtler clerical identification than the high-contrast black-and-white combination.
The front closure is a concealed button placket. On white fabric, a concealed closure matters even more than on dark colors because visible buttons and the shadow of a placket edge show clearly against white. The overlap keeps the center front reading as a single unbroken line.
Cut and Fit
Pax is tailored with bust darts and a slight body taper, giving it enough shape to look intentional without being tight. The curved hem is cut to sit inside the waistband when tucked in, and the length is set so the shirt stays tucked during seated and active wear without needing constant adjustment.
The sleeves are short, ending just above the elbow with a plain finished hem edge. They are set in at the shoulder seam with enough ease for comfortable arm movement. The back yoke seam sits across the upper shoulders, keeping the fabric from pulling or bunching when the wearer reaches forward.
Fabric and Care
Pax is made from a poly cotton blend, the same construction used across the clerical shirt line. The blend gives breathability from the cotton content and wrinkle resistance from the polyester, both of which matter more in a white shirt than a dark one because creases and sweat marks show immediately on white fabric.
The white is a true, clean white rather than a cream or off-white. It matches the standard white clerical tab and sits well under a white alb or surplice without shade mismatch.
Care: machine wash cold with like colors, tumble dry low. White poly cotton can be washed with a mild bleach alternative if needed to maintain brightness over time. Remove promptly from the dryer and hang or fold to avoid setting creases. No dry cleaning required.
