Purple and the Clerical Wardrobe
Purple is the most liturgically loaded color available in a clergy shirt. It signals episcopal rank in Anglican, Roman Catholic, and Lutheran traditions, where bishops and archbishops wear purple as their daily color. It marks the penitential seasons of Advent and Lent across nearly every Western Christian tradition. And in COGIC and many Pentecostal bodies, purple carries an association with apostolic authority and senior pastoral leadership.
Fidelia is built in a deep, saturated violet that reads as a true episcopal purple rather than drifting toward plum, burgundy, or lavender. The color holds under fluorescent office lighting, sanctuary incandescent, and outdoor daylight without shifting toward blue or red, which is the common problem with cheaper purple fabrics.
The Full Collar Band
Fidelia uses a full white clergy collar band rather than a removable tab. The band wraps completely around the neck, sitting as a continuous white ring at the junction between the purple shirt body and the wearer’s skin. This construction provides stronger visual identification than a tab because the white collar is visible from the front, sides, and back simultaneously.
The full collar band is the traditional Anglican and Roman Catholic standard for clerical identification. It does not require a separate tab piece, which means there is nothing to insert, align, or lose. The band is attached to the shirt and stays in place throughout the day without adjustment.
Cut and Fit
Fidelia shares the same tailored body construction as Ministera: bust and waist darts, a back yoke seam across the upper shoulders, and a curved hem designed for tucking in. The long sleeves end in single-button barrel cuffs at the wrist, giving a clean professional line whether worn on their own or under a jacket or blazer.
The overall fit is shaped but not tight, with enough ease through the torso for comfortable seated wear during long meetings, hospital rounds, or confessional hours. The purple fabric sits flat against the body without pulling at the darts or bunching at the sides.
Fabric and Care
Fidelia is made from a poly cotton blend with a matte finish. Purple fabric is particularly sensitive to sheen; any gloss in the weave picks up as a highlight under direct lighting and makes the color look cheaper than it is. The matte finish keeps the purple reading as a deep, flat violet under every lighting condition.
The poly cotton blend holds its press through a full working day and resists the creasing that makes a shirt look worn by midafternoon. The white collar band is integrated into the shirt construction, so both pieces are laundered together without separation.
Care: machine wash cold with like colors, tumble dry low. Purple dye can transfer in the first few washes, so wash separately or with dark colors initially. The white collar band is color-safe against the purple body when laundered according to instructions. Light steaming removes wrinkles without needing a full press.
