Description
Made for a day shaped by prayer
The Contemplor sits between an everyday working habit and a high-feast choir robe. It has the gravity of a sacred garment — a deep cowl, full sleeves, a clean shoulder line — but the cloth and finish keep it light enough for daily wear. We designed it for monastic and quasi-monastic communities whose entire day is structured around prayer.
Fabric and feel
Fine wool blend with a brushed underside, in matte black or rich oat. The surface holds an even matte under sanctuary lighting; the underside is soft against the skin and forgiving in motion. It carries warmth through cold-chapel winters without becoming heavy in shoulder seasons.
Construction details
Deep set-in cowl with a tape-bound neckline and a hand-tacked yoke. Full liturgical sleeves with a soft curtain cuff. Internal back yoke canvas for shoulder shape. Two side seam pockets, one fitted with an inner sleeve for a small breviary. The hem is finished by hand, single-folded, weighted lightly at the corners for a clean fall.
Who it is for
Contemplative communities, hermitages with a regular Office, novices in formation, and clergy who serve in monastic or retreat-house settings. Customers often choose the Contemplor as a step up from the Cloistera Classic Monk Habit Robe when they want a habit that reads more clearly as sacred during the Office.
SIZING AND MADE-TO-MEASURE

Made-to-measure available for chest, shoulder, sleeve, body length, cowl depth, and cuff drop. Lead time for MTM orders is 12–15 working days from approved measurements.
FAQs
Q: How is the Contemplor different from the Cloistera?
A: The Contemplor uses a finer wool-blend cloth, a deeper cowl, and a more structured shoulder line. The Cloistera is closer to a classical working habit. Communities with a heavier liturgical schedule usually prefer the Contemplor.
Q: Can the cowl be worn forward at choir?
A: Yes. The cowl is cut to sit naturally forward when raised, framing the face without crowding it — which is what most contemplative communities ask for during the night Office.
Q: Is the brushed underside warm in summer?
A: The brushing is light and the wool blend is breathable. Summer wear is comfortable indoors; for outdoor summer use we recommend the Solivagus or Pauperis instead.
