Description
A habit that earns its keep
The Pauperis Simple Monk Robe is for men whose habit is a working garment. Garden, kitchen, cell, scriptorium — it is cut to take all of these without complaint. The shape is loose through the body, draped from a flat-set yoke, with a clean ankle-length fall and a hood that lays down out of the way when not in use.
Fabric and feel
Mid-weight 100% cotton twill in natural unbleached cream. It is slightly textured, washes hot, and softens noticeably after the first three or four cycles. There is no lining and no synthetic content; the only finish is a single-needle hem.
Construction details
Deep set-in hood without an internal cowl liner. Full-cut sleeves with a generous armhole for unrestricted movement. Two hidden side seam pockets sized for a breviary and a rosary. Includes a plain woven cord cincture; leather options available on request. Bartacked stress points at the shoulder, neck, and pocket openings.
Who it is for
Novices, postulants, working brothers, oblate communities, and households with a daily rule who want a sturdy, unfussy habit they will not be afraid to use. For sanctuary and choir wear, customers usually pair this with one of our liturgical robes (see Fraternus or Discipulus).
SIZING AND MADE-TO-MEASURE

FAQs
Q: Is Pauperis suitable for outdoor work?
A: Yes. The cotton twill is durable enough for garden and grounds work, and we offer optional reinforced kneel patches for communities with a heavy outdoor schedule.
Q: Will the natural cream colour show stains?
A: It is honest about wear in the way an undyed working habit should be. The fabric responds well to hot wash and line drying, and most communities find it ages into the cloth rather than spoiling it.
Q: Can I order this in black?
A: The Pauperis pattern is offered only in natural unbleached cream to preserve its character. For a similar simple cut in black, see our Cloistera Classic Monk Habit Robe.
