A habit that earns its keep
The Pauperis Simple Robe is for men whose habit is a working garment. Garden, kitchen, cell, scriptorium: it is cut to take all of these without complaint. The shape is loose through the body, draped from a flat-set yoke, with a clean ankle-length fall and a hood that lays down out of the way when not in use.
Fabric and feel
Mid-weight 100% cotton twill in natural unbleached cream. It is slightly textured, washes hot, and softens noticeably after the first three or four cycles. There is no lining and no synthetic content; the only finish is a single-needle hem.
Construction details
Deep set-in hood without an internal cowl liner. Full-cut sleeves with a generous armhole for unrestricted movement. Two hidden side seam pockets sized for a breviary and a rosary. Includes a plain woven cord cincture; leather options available on request. Bartacked stress points at the shoulder, neck, and pocket openings.
Who it is for
Novices, postulants, working brothers, oblate communities, and households with a daily rule who want a sturdy, unfussy habit they will not be afraid to use. For sanctuary and choir wear, customers usually pair this with one of our liturgical robes (see Fraternus or Discipulus).
