A Purple Cassock for Servers
Regium is a floor-length purple cassock cut for servers, acolytes, and junior liturgical ministers. The deep episcopal violet is the same shade used in Advent and Lenten vestments, and it gives a server team a formal, unified appearance at the altar that a plain black cassock does not always achieve. Purple server cassocks are common in Roman Catholic, Anglican, and Episcopal parishes that want their servers to be visibly distinguished from the congregation while serving at the altar.
The cassock is designed to be worn under a white surplice or cotta, which is the standard layered combination for servers across most Western liturgical traditions. The surplice is a separate garment and is not included with this listing.
Collar and Closure
The collar is a stand collar closed with a single fabric-covered button at the center front. The collar height is low enough to sit comfortably on younger servers without pressing against the throat, and it disappears under a surplice’s neckline when the server is fully vested.
The center front closure runs from the collar to below the waist with matching covered buttons. Covered buttons are standard on liturgical cassocks because they give a smooth, tone-on-tone line down the front rather than the contrast of exposed metal or plastic buttons. The closure makes the cassock easy to put on and remove, which matters for servers who vest quickly before Mass and change back into street clothes immediately after.
Cut and Movement
The body is an A-line cut from the shoulder, falling straight to the floor with enough width in the skirt for kneeling, genuflecting, and moving between the altar and the credence table without pulling or riding up. Servers spend more time kneeling than almost any other person in the sanctuary, and a cassock that binds at the knees or rides up when kneeling is a constant distraction.
The shoulder seam is set in rather than dropped, keeping the upper body neat and structured. The sleeves are straight and long, ending at the wrist with a plain hem edge that sits cleanly under the wide sleeves of a surplice.
Fabric and Care
Regium is made from a breathable lightweight tropical fabric, chosen specifically for servers who may be wearing the cassock for one to two hours at a time in buildings without strong air conditioning. The fabric breathes well enough to keep a young server comfortable during a long High Mass or Easter Vigil, and it is light enough to layer under a surplice without overheating.
The purple holds its depth and saturation after laundering without fading toward lavender, which is the common problem with cheaper purple cassock fabrics that lose their dye density after a few months of weekly use.
Care: machine wash cold with like colors, tumble dry low or hang to dry. The lightweight tropical fabric does not require dry cleaning. Steam rather than press with a hot iron to avoid creating shine marks on the surface.
