A Pulpit Robe in the Geneva Tradition
Patterned on the Geneva-gown lineage used by Reformed, Presbyterian, Methodist and many Lutheran preachers, the Praetorium gathers the upper back into a structured yoke and releases volume through the body for clean drape from the shoulder line to the hem. The result is a robe rather than a fitted cassock — designed to read with movement at the pulpit and to wear comfortably over a cassock-vest, suit jacket or clerical shirt.
Embroidered Cross Panels and Front Trim
Twin embroidered panels run vertically down the front of the robe; each panel is finished with a Latin cross worked in gold metallic thread on a black ground. The panels are stitched as appliqués to allow replacement should embroidery wear over decades of weekly use. Surrounding gold trim borders the panels, picking up sermon lights and giving the robe ceremonial weight without departing from black-and-gold reformed tradition.
Bell Sleeves and Construction
The sleeves are drafted in the classic preaching-gown bell shape, gathered at the shoulder and released into a wide cuff for visible hand gesture from the pulpit. The hem is finished with a deep facing for weight, and the centre-front opens with a hidden zipper behind the embroidered panel for ease of robing. A single internal microphone-pocket is fitted at the chest.
Fabric and Care
Tailored from a fluid wool-polyester gabardine (approx. 50/50) chosen for soft drape, matte finish and gentle creasing through gathered seams. Care: dry clean only; steam between wears on a wool setting; embroidered panels are washable separately at hand-wash temperatures if removed from the robe.
